Hello, I’m Andy Maitland, an artist, author, and spiritual director living in the South of England. I’m married, my wife is a healthcare professional.
As an artist, working exclusively on the iPad since 2011, I have given talks, exhibited and collaborated with organisations including Apple, the Royal Horticultural Society, the London Symphony Orchestra and the V&A (some pictures are below).
I’m the author of ‘The Digital Garden®’ and ‘An Imagined Garden One’, each book documents a series of artworks exploring augmented reality, space and architecture, places where perception, awareness and attention meet.
Alongside my creative work, I’m also a spiritual director, accompanying people as they listen for God’s presence in their own stories. My principal formation and training was with Dr Larry Crabb, 2002/3/6, in the US.
Much of my work grows out of a life-long fascination with imagination: not as escape or fantasy, but as a way of paying attention more deeply to life, to God, and to the world we actually inhabit.
I’ve spent most of my working life in creative industries: graphic design, digital design and marketing, as an artist, as a creative person speaking to other creative people and to young adults in educational institutions, alongside involvement in church leadership. That combination has given me a grounded sense of how faith, creativity, imagination, perception, attentiveness and everyday life overlap in practice.
